Sample Client Projects
The applications listed below are samples of successful software applications designed, developed and implemented by QLINC.
Brand Management
This international Brand Management System was designed as a collaborative tool to resolve branding conflicts. The system allows Brand Managers to balance the requirements between:
1) Production Parts and Aftermarket Parts
2) Trucks, Buses, Construction Equipment, and Marine Engines
3) Geographic and legislative requirements
The system stores and reports the brand decisions made for a European commercial truck and bus manufacturer. Design Release Engineers can register RSS feeds that provide alerts when changes are made to specific parts.
Portfolio Planning
This web-based database stores and reports every combination of vehicle, engine, transmission, and controller sold worldwide for an automobile manufacturer. The application calculates and reports real-time volumes used for planning, government CAFÉ requirements, emissions requirements, and safety analysis.
Repetitive Task Management & Analysis (RTMA)
QLINC is a leader in developing Repetitive Task Management and Analysis (RTMA) tracking systems. RTMA is a form of Project Management that differs in primarily two ways:
1) Tasks are repeated hundreds or thousands of times in an iterative process
2) Project completion is a moving target
A specific example of QLINC's solution began as an MS Project application for clients of Hewlett Packard's Managed Services Division. In Phase II, a multiuser, turnkey, Functional Prototype was built in MS Access. Once the prototype was fully tested, the application was migrated to MS SQL Server with a web-based, .NET user interface.
Engineering Workload
The Engineering Estimation Module (EEM) is a top down estimation tool that calculates the demand for resources required to complete an engineering project. The tool began as a proof-of-concept Functional Prototype in MS Access for a European commercial truck manufacturer. Once accepted, the prototype was converted by the client's internal IT Department to an MS SQL Server database with a web-based .NET user interface.
EEM users build Product Content Sheets (PCS) for each project. The PCS identifies the degree of change (DOC) for each Component in the product being engineered. The EEM algorithm then searches a database of stored historic resource curves that match the component and change level, and prepares a resource usage table for that project. By combining all project resource usage tables, the EEM can prepare a total resource usage table.
Construction Draw Management
This multiuser and turnkey MS Access application was designed and implemented for Comerica Bank. The tool manages the information for Construction Draw loans. The system maintains balances for Loan Amount, Principal, Working Funds, and Restricted Funds. The balances are adjusted based on the five types of activities; Loan Setup, Interim Modifications, Principal Payments, Restricted Fund Payments, and Draws. A complete menu of month end, year end and audit reports complete the Construction Draw process.
Activity Based Costing
This international web-based application calculates engineering costs by activity for the operations personnel and translates the costs to the corporate P&L categories for the finance department of an international auto manufacturer.
Product Cost Tracking
This application is an enhancement to the Product Planning and Workload Modeling tool that QLINC developed for General Motors Powertrain. The tool was enhanced for the FIAT-GM Powertrain alliance that included FIAT, GM Brazil, Opel, and Saab Automobile. The tool builds on the Engineering Workload Model by calculating engineering costs by activity for the operations personnel and translates the costs to the corporate P&L categories for the finance department.
Technology Risk Assessment
This application tracks advanced engineering research projects. Values are maintained for the projects' positive or negative impact on several categories (cost, customer satisfaction, fuel economy, etc.). The system is linked to the portfolio plan and projected production volumes to determine the overall fleet impact across the tracked categories.
Budget Generation & Tracking
This web-based budget generating application does a deep dive for one year's engineering budget. It is designed to permit the continuous reassignment of resources across departments to keep the target annual budget in line with changing production volumes.
Feasibility Management
This multiuser and turnkey MS Access application was implemented for Ford Motor Company's cross-vehicle engineering group. The system assesses the design feasibility of appearance related commodities by expending the minimum effort required to allow the design to progress to the next step.
